FAQ's


1)What is the time commitment for hockey?
A. Intro to Hockey- 1 hour a week
U7 - 2 practices a week (2 hours)
U9 - U18 - 2 practices a week* and most weekends 2 games**

* 1 practice is in Strathmore and the second practice can be at any of the following rinks: Gleichen, Standard, Hussar, Rockyford. Practices are on set days every week Eg. Mondays and Thursdays. The younger groups practice earlier than the older age groups.
** Games depend on the division you are placed in after the tiering round, they can be anywhere in Southern Alberta

2) How do you know what tier you are in?
A. All teams have 4 weeks at the beginning of the year called Tiering round. You are put into a division where we think you will be competitive, from there you play teams and depends on wins and loss they have you play other divisions and teams to ensure you are properly ranked where games can be competitive (within 5 goals). After tiering round is done you play a regular season.

3) How long is the hockey season?
A. Tryouts start in September, Practices will start shortly after tryouts. Tiering round starts after Thanksgiving weekend until early November and  Regular season starts in November and usually consist of 12-18 games (6-9 away and home games). Playoffs often start the 3rd week of February. Most teams are wrapped up by the third weekend in March.

4) What equipment do I need to play hockey?

A. Full equipment - Shin pads, pants, shoulder pads, elbow pads, neck guard, helmet, skates
